2011 Student Scholarship Award
Ms. Shequenta Wray
Veterinary Student at North Carolina State University
Shequenta Wray is the recent recipient of the 2011 American Association of Public Health Veterinarians (AAPHV) Student Scholarship that supported her travel to, and attendance at, the 2011 SAVMA Symposium held at University of California, Davis in March. In the fall of 2011, she will be a third-year veterinary student at North Carolina State University (NCSU); Ms. Wray received a Bachelor of Science degree in Animal Science from NCSU in 2009.
As a veterinary student, Ms. Wray has worked with the Vector Borne Disease Diagnostic Laboratory at the NCSU College of Veterinary Medicine (CVM) and the North Durham Banfield Pet Hospital. Ms. Wray has also served as a camp counselor for the Gateway & NCSU CVM Summer Veterinary Camp for middle school students. Her leadership positions include NCSU CVM Class of 2013 Treasurer and Fundraising Chair, Veterinary Student Public Health Corps (VSPHC) Event Coordinator and VSPHC President (2011-2012). This summer she will be traveling to Beijing, China to study animal acupuncture.
In awarding the scholarship, the AAPHV Board of Directors recognized Ms. Wray's interest in public health opportunities for veterinarians and hopes to encourage continued participation in the diverse activities through which veterinarians contribute to public health.
